How To Do Two Tone Paint On Car

  1. Default Painting two tone colors- practise you clear coat the first color?

When painting ii colors, I ever idea you would shoot both base colors
and and then shoot the clear. Is that right? I've heard some guys say that they don't
like taping on fresh base. But is it good to shoot the clear on the outset color and then record off for the next color? I wouldn't call up that it is good to shoot the second base color over elevation of fresh articulate? Just wondering, this could exist a impaired question? Jim

Are both colors metallic colors? If I'1000 spraying stripes of a car with one solid and one metal color I shoot the solid color in single stage first and so scuff it and mask it then spray my other color in base then unmask and clear over everything.

If I'm spraying ii metal colors I'd spray the first and articulate it and then mask and spray the 2d and clear that. In some cases I would spray the first color and clear it then sand it and mask and spray my second then unmask and clear over everything.

When yous clear over everything you tin usually remove any ridge betwixt the 2 colors when y'all sand and smoothen.

  3. Default Ii tone

Ane colour is metallic and ane is only base blackness. I never thought to shoot information technology in unmarried stage!
I have put the outset color down yesterday in base of operations blackness, I judge I should put one coat of
articulate on the black stripes before I mask off for the second color. Then when I'thou washed with
that, scuff the clear and shoot the whole hood with a couple coats of clear. Does that sound
similar a good plan? Thanks Len for the back up! Jim

We would put clear over the black and then sand information technology before masking so mask and utilize the second color, remove the mask and spray clear over the entire job. This will help eliminate the ridge betwixt colors.

  5. Default Two tone

    Thanks Len,
After spraying the clear over the blackness, would you sand it with 400 or 600
or would y'all merely use a scuff pad before masking for the next color?
    thanks Jim

  6. Default

I'd probably sand it with 1000 dust wet paper and then clean and mask before shooting the next color. After shooting the 2d color I'd unmask then make clean and clear everything.

  7. Default

I utilize intercoat clear if I want to use any clear at all. Thats only and so I can scuff because I intend to go outside the recoat window. Intercoat clear can exist scuffed in an 60 minutes, equally opposed to overnight

  8. Default two tone

I understand the wet sanding and cleaning, what would you make clean the 2d color with before
shooting the clear? What will not react with the base when cleaning information technology?

  10. Default Two tone

    Len,

What would you use to clean with before shooting the concluding clear coats?
Just tack rags or is at that place something else that doesn't react with base?
    Thank you Jim

I unremarkably blow off the sanding dust then wipe it with a clammy newspaper towel. I'll either dampen the towel with M&W remover or water, if I use water I'll use dry towels to dry out the surface then mask and tack the surface prior to painting.
